Visiting The Hunters Stadium: Matchday Guide

When making your next visit to The Hunters Stadium off of Beechnut Lane, here are a few things to take into account when making your journey. You can find our details under the ‘Contact‘ page on our website.

Please be aware that at the moment we have ongoing ground works, so please take extra care when entering and leaving our stadium.

This guide is to help fans/spectators travelling for Match days in finding our ground and things to do in our town.

Finding our ground via car/coach

If you are travelling to Pontefract along the M62, leave the motorway at Junction 32 and head towards Pontefract Town Centre (following the side of Pontefract Park on your right). You will go straight on at your first set of traffic lets remaining in the left hand lane of traffic, make your third exit at the roundabout (adjacent to McDonalds and the Aspire @ The Park facility in the park). Again remaining in the left hand lane and taking the next left at the lights. This takes you down Beechnut Lane to the bottom of the row of houses into the gates of our ground.

If you are travelling to Pontefract from the other end of Town you will join the dual carriageway following the double roundabouts next to The Robin Hood Pub and Ponte Pets Shop. Stay in the right hand lane going under the pedestrian bridge and past Haribo’s Sweet Factory. Continue in the right hand lane after the train tracks at Tanshelf Train station and past Beechnut Lane at the traffic lights. You are not able to turn right at the lights, so you must go right around the right about and back up towards Beechnut Lane. From here you would again turn left at the lights and to the bottom of Beechnut Lane.

We ask fans to park at the raised section of the car park and to then walk down to the ground, leaving plenty of space for players, staff, committee members and those with disabled parking needs.

Finding our ground via Train or Bus

One of Pontefract’s positives is that the transport links are very accessible to the town. Depending where you are coming from you have a few different Train Stations, the closest to the ground is Tanshelf Train Station. From here you would need to exit from the car park onto Beechnut Lane and after a short walk down the road you will end up in the Collieries Car Park.

Monkhill Train Stations is again not too far from our ground. When leaving the train head left out of the car park and down the stairs. From here The Railway Pub is on your right, turn right following the car park entrance and this will lead you down a pedestrian walk way which leads to Denwell Terrace. Follow this to the end of the road with the cemetery grounds opposite, turn right under the bridge and make your first left at our sign down the passage way and the ground is on your left.

The Pontefract Bus station is located a five to ten minute walk from our ground, leaving the bus station via the north entrance you would cross the road at the lights and walk past the Northgate Medical Centre and follow the road down. You will pass St Giles C of E Academy on your right, you will need to cross the road and follow the road under the bridge and again turn left at our sign down the passage way to the ground again on your left.

Entering The Hunters Stadium

Once parked up head down to the ground, you will find the turnstile is on your immediate right. For first team games the standard price for entry is £9 for Adults, £6 for Concessions and U16’s £3 unless accompanied by a paying adult (FREE). Payment is available both in cash and using card payments (Both chip and pin and contactless).

Once inside the ground The Colls Tea Bar is on your left serving hot and cold food and drinks. The Colls bar can be found just before the main stand seating, go in through the door on the left and turn right into the clubhouse bar. The playing surface is directly in front of you when entering the turnstiles, all seating is in the main stand, with a covered standing area behind the goal to your right.

Dogs are welcome in all outdoor areas at The Hunters Stadium, we just ask that they remain on a lead.

Making a day of it?

Why not make a day of your visit to Pontefract and come into town early. You could park in our car park and have a steady walk into town, to get to the centre of town turn left through the tunnel under the bridge before the row of houses. Head to the top of the road and over the crossing, follow this road past the smells of the Haribo Factory and up to the top of the road where you will enter the town centre. In Town there are a number of cafe’s to have a spot of lunch, or countless pubs for a pre match drink. We would recommend starting at the bottom of Town in the Robin Hood and venture up into town heading towards the ground where you will find The Northern Social before making your way to Beechnut Lane.

If History is your thing, you can visit Pontefract Castle where their grounds are open between 9:30am to 4:30pm. The Castle is not too far from Monkhill Train Station or you can park in their grounds and their postcode is WF8 2JF. There is also a number of Iconic Town Centre locations such as The Butter Cross, Town Hall and St Giles Church.

Pontefract has its own Museum, Step inside the beautiful art nouveau building and find out more about the rich history of Pontefract. From liquorice to glass making, they have lots to show you. They are open from 10:30am-4:30pm on Saturday’s, plus it’s only in town so a short walk to the ground.

We hope you enjoy your visit to The Colls and hopefully we will see you again in the future too!
