Smythe makes Colls return | Interview

Earlier this week we were delighted to announce the return of former fans favourite Connor Smythe, the left side man that can operate at both left back as well as in the midfield.

Connor played a key role in our first seasons in the NPL – as we achieved a second place finish in our first season and were fourth in the following campaign – before covid rudely interrupted the season.

We caught up with Connor to discuss his return to the club;

Connor welcome back, tell us how the move came about and how you’re feeling to be back?

Thank you. Rousey and Bax spoke with me after the season had finished and made their interest known. I’m excited to be back at a club where I’ve got great memories and a club that has made lots of progress since I was last here.

A second spell at the club and a chance to work under Craig Rouse again, how key was he to your decision?

He is someone I’ve got a lot of respect for, having worked together for three years before. I’ve a great relationship with Rousey and we share a lot of the same values when it comes to working in football.

You enjoyed some great moments here previously, what are your goals for the season ahead?

The same as every season – do everything we can to finish as high as we can. The first season I was here we came second and the following season we were fourth with games in hand when lockdown came. Personally I aim to play every game and give everything for the team to get results to achieve success.

Finally what message do you have for the fans – who will be delighted to hear of your return?

Thank you for the support previously and all the support we will get this upcoming season. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the Colls fans again and creating more memories!
