Pontefract Collieries and Morpeth Town shared the spoils on the opening day as neither side could find the breakthrough in a tightly contested goalless draw – in one of just three league fixtures this weekend.
The Colls arguably edged the first half in terms of the bigger moments, with Joe Lumsden seeing most of the opportunities but unable to convert.
The second half remained tight, with both sides enjoying spells of pressure but neither able to find the decisive touch.
James Morris thought he had marked his debut with a goal, only to be denied by a goal-line clearance, while Harry Christy was kept busy up the other end by the Highwaymen – but Christy stood firm.
Morpeth looked the more likely late on, but Ponte came closest to snatching all three points when Dan Langley’s crucial toe denied Kiyani Clayton a winner.
