U10s Girls Weekly Update

The girls were back in action again on Sunday against their strongest league rivals West End Terriers.

The Terriers started brightly creating several opportunities with shots flashing either side of the posts as the Coll’s had to dig deep to keep to keep things goalless.

The Colls gradually grew into the game and started to create some chances of their own, good passing play through the midfield saw the ball pushed out wide left, with a neat interchange the ball glanced just wide from Lola, the Terriers outstanding keeper stranded and relieved to see it whistle past the post. More chances came with attempts for Lucy and Poppy but the keeper was equal to everything. At the back the defensive line looked assured as ever with Erin, Hannah, Kiera and Lucie all taking responsibility in key moments. Issy also continued her good form looking calm on the ball and finding her passes. All the girls were fighting for everything, but it meant there were often only scraps to feed off for our front runners Madyson and Lucy.

Half time was upon the team and still the game was a stalemate, with both teams looking very even.

The second half continued to ebb and flow with few chances but gradually the Colls were heaping the pressure on, Lucie was everywhere, Poppy brought her own brand of skill and vision, Lucy was waiting for the one right moment, Erin playing further forward gave the Terriers a new headache to worry about with some marauding runs and dangerous crosses from the right, but still no one could find an opener.

Then a moment of brilliance from Lola who pounced on a poor keeper kick, shooting first time from just inside the Terriers half saw the keeper scrambling and doing well to push the shot round the post!

The corners came and went and still no breakthrough, but the Colls were dominant now, controlling the game and carving the defence open, and finally it came, the ball played in from the right saw Lucy pick it up wide on the left, a neat turn took her past her player, tight to the byline and with players queuing up Lucy did the keeper with the eyes, feigning to pull the ball back she smashed the ball inside the keepers near post, and finding the far top corner from an impossible angle! The Colls players and supporters went into raptures, an unbelievable strike from a seemingly impossible angle was enough to win it and the girls knew it! With 5 minutes to play the Terriers dug deep and went searching, but again the Colls found a way to win, tackles flying in, bravery and a fine save from Kiera ensured that the Colls would hang on to their lead, what a game, what a victory, what a goal!!
