Run Continues With Hard-Fought Victory Over Blyth Town

Pontefract Collieries climbed into the play-off positions with a fourth win in five matches, overcoming Blyth Town in what proved to be a scrappy but ultimately rewarding afternoon at The Hunters Stadium.

The Colls made an assertive start and took control early in the first half. Their pressure told when captain Jack Greenhough rose highest from a corner to power home a header and give the hosts a deserved lead. It was a typically commanding moment from the skipper, setting the tone both defensively and offensively.

The advantage was doubled soon after. Frankie Sinfield continued his fine goalscoring form, meeting a dropping ball with a crisp low volley that left the visiting goalkeeper with little chance. At 2–0, Ponte looked firmly in control.

However, the game took a dramatic turn before the interval. A heated exchange inside the penalty area resulted in both Sinfield and Blyth’s Nathan Buddle receiving red cards. The dismissals disrupted Ponte’s rhythm and handed the visitors renewed belief.

Blyth returned for the second half with greater intent and began to push forward. Substitute Cyril Giraud injected energy into their attack and became a constant threat. With twenty minutes remaining, he finished off a swift counter-attack to reduce the deficit and set up a nervy closing spell.

The Colls had to show resilience and discipline as Blyth pressed for an equaliser, but the back line stood firm and managed the closing stages effectively to secure another important three points. It may not have been pretty, but it was another sign of a side grinding out results when required — and one that continues to build momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

Player of the Match: Jack Greenhough – A captain’s performance. Dominant in the air, composed under pressure, and crucial in organising the defence during a tense second half.
