Pontefract Collieries make the short trip to Emley on Saturday, heading into the game with confidence after last weekend’s dramatic late equaliser. An 87th minute penalty earned Colls a 1–1 draw and showed the character that’s been building over recent weeks.
Now the aim is to build on seven points collected from nine and try put another run of points on the board.
Colls have looked stronger defensively and more settled as a team in recent games, picking up important results while performances keep improving – with goals going in for our forwards up the other end.
Emley come into the match in good spirits after a hard fought 0-1 win at Newton Aycliffe last weekend. New signing Gabriel Johnson made an instant impact, scoring on his debut and adding extra threat to their attack.
This fixture sees the return of Bailey Thompson, who faces Colls for the first time since joining Emley a few weeks ago. He was a well-liked figure at Pontefract, and his involvement adds a bit of extra interest to Saturday’s game.
Emley are always a tough side to face at their home ground. They play with energy, start games quickly and are backed by a decent crowd that makes it a difficult place to visit. Managing their early pressure and staying switched on at set pieces will be important.
