Juniors Insight: U8s Yellows Weekly Update

On a very blustery morning, the Yellows U8 faced Ulleskelf Storm in a cup Semi Final away fixture. Having lost in a cup final last season, the Yellows were determined to earn the chance to make amends. Soon after the kick off, it was evident that the teams were well matched, much of the game dominated by good defence from each side. During the first 2 quarters, assisted by the persistent wind, the Yellows had chances, only to see the ball strike the woodwork on 2 occasions.

Most impressive though was the solidity in defence, helped by the forwards who continually worked back, keeping the busy Storm side at bay. 0-0 at half time. The solid defensive display continued in the final 2 quarters. However, it finally buckled as Storm slotted home with little time for the Yellows to equalise. 1-0 storm. Despite battling against a strong Storm side and stormy winds, the Yellows pushed on and earned a deserved equaliser thanks to a Storm OG. 1-1.

Locked at 1-1 at the final whistle, we entered 10 mins extra time with the Yellow still showing great energy levels during which the keepers from each side kept their teams in the tie. 1-1 after extra time, penalties. The Yellows showed great confidence expertly dispatching 5 of their 6 penalties. That coupled with 2 saves from Henry gave the Yellow the win in a very exciting game! 1-1 AET 4-5 after penalties.
