Juniors Insight: U12s Girls Weekly Update

Halloween came a day early for the Blues this week. Despite being by far the strongest side on the day and one of their best performances of the season in terms of work rate, tackling and passing the Blues lost 2-0 to NEL Lionesses.

The first half was close battle. The defence of Harriet, Olive and Liv E supported by Katie in a sweeper role were all outstanding. The forward line of Capt Anna, Teegan C, Jess and Lexi pressed hard. Lexi always on the prowl and 15 minutes into the game covered head to foot in mud from tackling, won the ball in midfield skipped past two players and put a sublime cross over for Capt Anna. Anna with her trusted left foot hit a great shot which the keeper saved. Katie despite her defensive role pushed up and had two great chances saved. Even a couple of fine runs from our wing wizard Jess wouldnt unlock the NEL defence. It was then just before half time the NEL high press from goal kicks paid off when they won the ball from the Blues goal kick and scored against the run of play.

Into the second half and the Blues were determined to get back into the game. The introduction of Jessie and Bella made an instant as both battled hard for the ball creating chances for Teegan C and Capt Anna. Katie now back in her attacking role won the ball just outside the box and had a great strike saved. NEL started to mount an attack to take the pressure off their defence. They had four fine strikes all saved by Blues top keeper Emme. The Blues then were cruelly dealt a second blow when a controversial dead ball decision was not called and NEL capitalised on the Blues team not playing to the whistle. 2-0 to NEL. Total respect to the Blues, these girls never give in. The last 15 minutes saw the Colls throw everything at NEL. The away team could not get out of their half with the Blues constantly attacking looking for the two elusive goals. A switch between Anna and Teegan C saw Anna left wing and Teegan C upfront. Both attackers and the whole team played out of their skins but despite all the chances the Blues had it wasn’t their day despite the massive shift they all put in.

Opposition Girl of the Match was Teegan C for her determination & battling upfront.

Blues Girl of the Match was Harriet. Harriet was given the big task of covering for Blues Centre half Liv P and lead the back line. She was outstanding in centre defence.

Well done girls. No one could dispute you were the far better team. Your work rate was fantastic, plenty of lessons learnt today. #UTC
