Juniors Insight: U11s Girls Weekly Update

Our high flying under 11s continued their winning ways with another fine display away to Calverley Comets.

The two teams have never met before and so it was an unknown quantity stepping into the game. Colls we’re tasked with starting on the front foot with high intensity pressing, a challenge following slightly slow starts in previous weeks. Their response was magnificent.

Within 2 minutes the colls took the lead, a driving run down the right flank from Lola took the ball into the area where the ball broke to Evie who from 6 yards snuck the ball neatly inside the near post for a dream start. Moments later the Colls doubled their lead, again the ball finding its way into Evie (following good work from Lola and Kiera) who took up a fine position to once again slot the ball home giving the keeper no chance!!

The pattern settled for a moment with the colls dominating the ball, suffocating their opponents with a great work rate and a strong back line commanded by the exceptional Lucie.

In the 6th minute our defence once again looked solid and neat play down the left from Freya, Evie and then Ellie found the ball shifted out to Little Hannah on the left edge of the area. With glue on her boots she danced past two players with ease giving herself a 1v1 situation where she coolly slotted home in the bottom left corner.

The opposition were shell shocked, and the colls continued to press, Isobel linking neatly with Lola again who was a constant menace down the wing, the keeper doing well to keep her and Evie at bay on several occasions.

Colls rotated the team slightly, and for a few moments whilst we adjusted the intensity dropped a few percent, and credit to the Comets they seized the opportunity, first forcing Hannah into a save with her feet, before moments later getting into the left channel and finding a neat finish low to her right hand side. 3-1 with 20 played.

This reminded the girls of the energy levels required and they quickly found their rhythm again. This time Frankie finding a neat pass up the left side to Poppy who showed another trademark mazy run, cutting in on her right foot smashed home hard and low to the bottom left corner from just outside the area. A minute later a neat move saw Jamo lay in Poppy who struck again with a carbon copy finish, just a few yards further out. 5-1.

In the 27th minute Jamo rounded off the first half goal fest breaking clear down the right channel and slotting home calmly.

An outstanding first half display.

The second half we challenged the girls to increase the passes made and hold their shape, and they executed superbly.

Comets once again battled well and were determined to make it hard work for the Colls and they succeeded to some extent, their defence looking more solid and more organised they began to hold us at bay.

Through virtue of last ditch blocks on Jamo Poppy, Lola and Hannah, a number of good saves from their keeper, and efforts wide from Ellie, Evie and Freya, it wasn’t until the 43rd minute that Jamo found her goal! More good play down the left between Kiera, Freya and Poppy, saw her slip the ball inside to Jamo who flicked the ball beautifully past the oncoming keeper to see it clip the inside of the far post and nestle in the net.

Just two minutes later and Jamo was brought down in the area for a clear penalty, she brushed herself off and stepped up to rattle it home for her hat-trick and the Colls 8th goal of the game!

The remainder of the match saw continued pressure, but no further goals. However the attempts to pass and play a neat brand of football was there for all to see, and the girls can count themselves unlucky not to have found a goal or two following a 4 and 5 pass move!

Final score Calverley Comets 1v8 Colls

OPOTM- Little Hannah for her mazy runs and battling quantity

POTM- Evie for her work ethic and setting the tone for the game with two early goals (her first for the club!)

Well done everyone!
