Pontefract Collieries were proud to host a hugely successful Women’s Charity Football Evening on Friday 10th April, bringing together football, community spirit and fundraising for three fantastic causes.
In front of a crowd of over 200 supporters, our Pontefract Cougars held a curtain raiser to kick off the evening, before the Colls Women Select XI ran out victorious against the England Lionesses Supporters Team – capping off an entertaining evening at the Hunters Stadium.
A key highlight of the night saw the club’s fundraising raffle drawn at half-time, with supporters eagerly awaiting the winning numbers after weeks of incredible backing from the local and wider community.
Thanks to the generosity shown throughout the build-up and on the night itself, the event raised a fantastic total, with more than £5,000 generated through raffle ticket sales and additional fundraising efforts. This means that each of the evening’s chosen beneficiaries — Family Burns Club, the Samantha Sykes Foundation, and Pontefract Collieries’ own Pontefract Pirates SEND football section — will each receive over £1,600.
The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success. From those who donated raffle prizes, to supporters who purchased and sold tickets, as well as the volunteers who gave up their time to help organise and run the event — your support made and continues to make a real difference.
Events like this continue to highlight the strength of the Colls community, and the club is proud to be able to support such important causes while showcasing the growth of the women’s game.
