Colls Match Report – North Ferriby (H)

Pontefract gained revenge on fellow play-off chasing North Ferriby, as they ran away with a 4-1 home victory thanks to goals from Louie Chorlton, a brace from Connor Smythe and Oli Metcalfe.

Craig Rouse’s men were fastest out of the blocks and took an early lead in this six pointer. The ball worked wide to the right flank by Jack Boyle, where in-form Louie Chorlton cut inside and fired low into the far corner of the net.

They weren’t about to rest on their laurels and grabbed the games second goal. A long throw met by Jack Steers rattled the bar, only for Connor Smythe to bundle in the rebound from close range.

Chances continued to come for Ponte, thanks to the threat out wide of Chorlton and Sinfield. Boyle and Haw working in tandem but unable to grab a third in an action packed half.

Both sides could find themselves lucky to have ended the half with eleven men, first Niall Tilsey flew into a challenge on Jack Vann – only for the referee to award the visiting skipper a yellow card. Danny Burns was then given a yellow himself, after a firm challenge was deemed to be illegally made.

The only sour note to a good half for Pontefract saw Louie Chorlton leaving the field, with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. This to the delight of the Northern Ferriby fullback, who will still be having nightmares.

The second half started much the way the first ended. A slack back pass by Dominic Roma gave The Colls a chance to whip in a corner, Nicell did just that and there was Connor Smythe round the back to coolly volley under the keeper.

The next fifteen minutes saw the West Yorkshire side pile on more pressure, first a post and an offside flag denying Jack Steers and then Tom Jackson with a great reaction save to keep out a Sinfield effort.

Despite the pressure North Ferriby gave themselves a lifeline. They put together a nice move down the right flank and after Josh Whiteley broke away, he played a lovely through ball to Amir Berchill – he kept his composure to finish past Lloyd Allinson.

This sparked life in The Villagers, former Colls forward Luke Hinsley headed wide when given a chance to reduce the arrears further.

As time ticked on Craig Rouse brought on Oli Metcalfe and he made an instant impact.  He found the ball on the lefthand side, before finding Frankie Sinfield – who twice managed to maintain possession despite being on the deck. Callum Nicell did well to find Metcalfe in the box, he was calm enough to cut back inside and fire in at the near post to seal a big win in front of a delighted home crowd!

Next up The Colls make the journey south, as we to Basford where we will play Carlton Town. This is due to the Northern Premier League instructing Carlton Town – they must play their March “home fixtures” away from home.
