Colls Cruise Past Grimsby

Pontefract Collieries continued their impressive run of form with a commanding home victory over Grimsby Borough, extending their unbeaten league run to two months with a confident and controlled display at The Hunters Stadium.

The Colls set the tempo early and pinned the visitors back in their own half. The breakthrough arrived following some excellent work down the right flank, as Alfie Perry was released into space by Joe Lumsden and delivered a teasing cross to the back post, where Frankie Sinfield was on hand to convert and give Ponte a deserved early lead.

The hosts barely took their foot off the gas and doubled their advantage soon after. Joe Lumsden was at the heart of the move again, showing great determination and quality to create the opening before Sinfield finished with real composure for his second of the afternoon.

Grimsby struggled to gain any real foothold in the contest, with Pontefract’s back line dealing comfortably with everything thrown at them. That dominance continued into the second half, as Jimmy Williams’ side controlled possession and territory.

The third goal arrived when Sinfield went close to completing his hat-trick, his effort not held by the visiting keeper. Niah Payne was alert to the loose ball, reacting quickest to fire home and put the result beyond doubt.

It was another assured performance from The Colls, who saw the game out professionally to secure another three points and maintain their strong momentum as the season progresses.

Player of the Match: Jack Greenhough — a captain’s performance at the heart of the defence. Dominant in the air and on the deck, organising those around him and setting the platform for Ponte’s attacking players to thrive.
