With The Colls enjoying a strong run of form and momentum building, captain Jack Greenhough discusses life at centre-back, dressing room unity and the impact of being back at The Hunters Stadium.
Both you and the lads are going through a good spell at the moment — how much are you enjoying the run we’ve been on recently?
JG: Everyone wants to win football matches and that’s what brings the enjoyment. We’re playing well and we’ve been unbeaten for the last two months, which is great for us. We’ve built some real momentum at a good stage of the season.
We’ve been disappointed with a few of the draws during that period because they probably should have been wins, but we’ve made sure we bounce back in the next game and go and take the three points.”
You’ve filled in at centre-back a couple of times over the years, but this season you’ve really made the position your own. How are you finding the change of role?
JG: I’m loving playing there. I played there when I was younger and now I feel like it really suits my game. I’m able to read the game, get on the ball and try to dictate play, but also communicate and give instructions during matches to keep us organised and solid as a unit.
The squad has really taken shape since we returned to The Hunters Stadium — how has being back home and the close-knit group helped our form?
We’re all good mates in the changing room, which always helps when it comes to getting results because everyone wants to work hard for each other. Playing back at our own ground has helped a lot — more fans are coming down and there’s a really good feel about the place right now.
We’re able to implement our own game and how we want to play there, but on the flip side we’ve got a lot of experience in the side too. When we go away to tough grounds with difficult surfaces, we’ve shown we can grind results out.
Next up The Colls are due to head to Blyth Spartans – weather dependant – where Ponte are looking to keep our unbeaten run going, before another trip north this time to Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday night.
