Colls Hit Five Past Ashington

Pontefract Collieries produced one of their best performances of the season, running out convincing 5–0 winners over Ashington AFC at The Hunters Stadium.

Before kick-off, both sides and supporters came together for a wonderful Remembrance Service, impeccably observed across the ground — a fitting tribute on an important afternoon.

Once the whistle blew, The Colls wasted no time in asserting control. Just five minutes in, Joe Lumsden was bundled over inside the box, and up stepped Frankie Sinfield to smash home the penalty with confidence.

Moments later, Niah Payne doubled the advantage. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, he drove past two defenders and hit a powerful strike beyond the ’keeper into the far corner to make it 2–0.

Ponte continued to dominate possession and territory, with Lumsden coming close to adding a third following a slick team move. The home side didn’t have to wait long, though, as Sinfield struck again before half-time — Jack Wilson showed real composure in the area to pick out his teammate, who finished calmly under the goalkeeper for 3–0.

The second half saw the game hit something of a lull, with little in the way of clear cut chances. Before substitute Jack Boyle delivered a pinpoint cross with twelve minutes remaining, allowing Sinfield to complete his hat-trick from close range and cap off a superb individual display.

There was still time for one more, as in stoppage time Danny Edwards grabbed his first Colls goal — reacting quickest to tap home following a ‘keeper fumble and round off a five star performance.

Player of the Match: Frankie Sinfield – a standout hat-trick performance, combining a constant threat, creativity, and ruthless finishing.
