Pontefract Collieries made it back to back victories with a well earned 2–1 win over Blyth Spartans at Ossett, thanks to a goal in each half from Frankie Sinfield.
The Colls started brightly, dictating much of the early play and enjoying long spells of possession in the visitors’ half. Despite their control, clear chances were hard to come by, with Blyth defending deep and in numbers.
Against the run of play, the Spartans took the lead midway through the first half. A loose back pass presented Euan Potts with a golden opportunity, and he made no mistake, slotting past Harry Christy to put the visitors in front.
Pontefract responded well to the setback, continuing to move the ball quickly and push for an equaliser. Their pressure finally told just before the break. A well worked move down the right saw Joe Lumsden and Niah Payne combine brilliantly, with Lumsden delivering a teasing cross that found Sinfield arriving at the back post to head home.
After the restart, The Colls looked the more confident side, continuing to press Blyth and dominate possession. Colls made changes to the side introducing Modest, Thompson, Russon and Wilson in a bid to grab a winner.
As the game entered the final ten minutes, Ponte’s persistence was rewarded. Modest was fouled inside the area, and up stepped Sinfield to confidently send the goalkeeper the wrong way and complete his brace.
Blyth pushed late on, but Ponte’s stopper Harry Christy stood firm to see out the win and claim another valuable three points.
The result marks another strong performance for Jimmy Williams’ men, who continue to build momentum and confidence heading into a busy schedule.
